Presenting a new cocktail - the Beata Fizz.

It only made sense. Santa Beata gave me some amazing classic-shaped martini glasses for Christmas (pictured - the Schott Tritan Crystal "Pure" Martini Glass); so I invented a cocktail for her. Here it is - the Beata Fizz.

Based on one of the oldest modern cocktails, the Silver Fizz, this drink has

2oz Juniper Green Gin
1 egg white
2 dashes of simple syrup
juice of half a small lemon
1.5oz of homemade cranberry soda (yep, I make my own seltzer and soda)

Prep: in a boston shaker, combine the gin, egg white, lemon juice and simple syrup with a handful or two of cracked ice, and shake vigorously - we're creating a foam (the "silver" part of the Silver fizz). Pour into chilled martini glass through a double strainer.

Quickly pour the cranberry soda water through the foam before it settles - this way, you maintain the nice white cap.

Beata really enjoys cranberry, and I recently read about the invention of the Silver Fizz in the NY Times and was fascinated by the drink, so I put the two together, adjusted the sweets vs. sours a bit, and wallah. She loves it! And it sure looks good in these amazing martini glasses.
