| ENTERPRISE GEEK TALK AND MORE! |
Sep 26, 2001, 9:50pm
Okay so Jeanette and I just finished watching the new Enterprise Star Trek show. But before I get into that, boy, was Jean really, really upset I put that picture of her up in the last rant. I love ya honey! :-)
Okay, so we're watching the show. Jean likes Trek, but she LOVES Scott Bakula. Me, I'm a fan of the original series because I liked the fights, the smoozin' with the green alien chicks and the shoot-em-ups that Kirk had. The new series, Next Generation and Voyager made my stomach turn at times with their "oooo, we're the sensitive, lovey dovey Federation! Give us a hug!" attitude.
So we're watching the show, and I'm paying attention to the technology because, well, I'm a bit of a tech geek. Here's my vocal comments during parts of the show:
When Archer takes out the little recorder device to play the Klingon voice for Yoshi, his new translation expert: "See, if he had my iPaq, not only could he play the Klingon's voice, but he could show video, and it would be slimmer, but not shorter than that device..."
When Archer is shown the digital tablet that is obviously sidelit like an iPaq, but bigger: "Hey, look, it's Microsoft's Tablet PC... but you figure in 120+ years from now, they wouldn't need sidelit, nor would they need something as thick as that - the tablets then would be should be using a derivative of digtal ink technology, and not require side lighting..."
When T'Pol (sp?) is viewing stuff at her station in the binocular type device: "Holy shite! Just like Spock's viewfinder from the first series!"
My wife during these comments: "Shut up, geek!"
sigh.....
