In a time where a lot of rhetoric is flying around, especially through my inbox by advertisers and companies that offer their public notes of sympathy for the attack but little else, there are also some genuine offerings and selfless acts by companies out there that are good for the heart and soul.

Amazon has raised over $10 million (last time I checked) through its users for the American Red Cross. Paypal has raised some $1.5 million and they are passing along the charitable tax receipts to those who donate, showing true selfless acts that cost the company on every transaction.

And this morning, amid the other emails I usually get from lists etc I subscribe to saying emphasising how mournful the lists, companies, marketers etc are, I got an email from Comstock, a photography source company I buy from occasionally. Comstock didn't self-pontificate much. In fact, they said what they were offering to do was "admittedly a tiny effort to somehow help."

Comstock is offering up six different images of the American flag, both in web and print resolution, for free use for anyone who wants them. The company could make as much as $50, $60 per sale of the print images, something that are no doubt in extremely high demand right now, but has offered them up for free. You can check them out here. It isn't a tiny effort, Comstock. It shows serious selflessness from a company. Kudos.
