I must say, I'm impressed, but also there are some caveats. In yesterday's rant, I compared them almost directly with Kosmo and other services. Not exactly true. Here's the differences: - they don't deliver within 90 minutes of your order; instead, if you order before 10am, they will deliver same day (afternoon or late evening). If you order after 10am, it's next day. Not a huge deal.
- you pay at the door. Debit or credit card only (no cash). Nice (though some might prefer online payments).
- the 90 minute thing is the "window" within which they will deliver. For example, if you order at 8pm, you can have it delivered the next day, 10am to 11:30am, 11:30 to 1pm, 1pm to 2:30 pm, etc etc up to 10pm.
- while ordering is 24 hours a day, delivery is 10am to 10pm weekdays, less on weekends
- delivery charge is $5, free if you order over $100. You get 2% off if you order $200, 3% off if you order $300. $50 minimum order.
Some perks too - you can order booze (I got me a 4 pack of Boddies!), specialty foods from the Vancouver region (like Ecco Il Pane breads, specialty pastries, ostrich meat (!!), arctic musk oxen meat (!!!!), and other stuff. Prices are very reasonable - pretty much comparable to Safeway prices in the Lower Mainland.
I'm impressed by their website. Palmer Jarvis did it (local Vancouver firm) and shows they've improved immensely since their days designing the sites for the Vancouver Sun and Vancouver Province. It keeps track of your orders (so you can reorder stuff), keeps shopping lists nice and neat, and even have shopping template lists for "typical" families to really cut down on the surf and click time. The site does use frames, and doesn't work very well in 800x600 or smaller, but at 1024x768 resolution, it's spacious.
