My Weirdest Thrill Yet... When Jeanette and I moved to our new, bright condo from the deep dank dungeon at Casa SlumLord, I got into plants and gardening in a big way. I guess I did it because since moving to Vancouver, I always seemed to live in some sub-terrainean hole, so getting above ground, into a nice condo with south facing, and sun drenched windows is a big change. The first thing I wanted to get was a tree... yep an indoor tree... and not just any kind of tree - I wanted a citrus tree! But they cost a fortune, so I had to settle for a Calamondin bush, which blooms with white flowers, and pumps out small 1 inch diameter oranges. I did get a tree - a nice big 5 foot high trained tree - I don't know what the name is, because the name they used at the store was incorrect. I'll post a picture of it soon, and maybe someone out there can name it for me. Then I discovered herbs. I love herbs, put them on just about everything I cook. I started from seed the following herbs: oregano, basil, dill, two kinds of thyme, lemon and regular, spanish onion, green onion, italian parsley, regular parsley, cilantro, and a few others. Most of them are growing fine, and now I have them all in a window planter, and within another month or so, should be enjoying some nice fresh herbs with my cooking. I am also trying three plants that will be a challenge to grow indoor - jalapeno peppers, cayenne peppers, and roma tomatoes. We'll see how those go. I also got a bit out of hand - I started buying plants on sale, etc., till I got too many of them - it drove Jeanette nuts. I bout a few rose bushes, some african violets, and about 5 different ficus plants. I also have some other plants that I don't even know the name of, and one plant I call the umbrella tree. I took pictures of all them, and as soon as I get them developed, I'll post them. I really have gotten into indoor gardening, and I guess it's my male way of substituting for my lack of reproducibility, like women have. I really enjoyed seeing my herbs grow from seed, through germination, and now on their way to mature plants. I fret and fuss over all my plants every day, trimming, pruning, and watering them. I don't know why I'm so into this, but I am. Some interesting plant listings I have found on the net include the following:
